Therapy Blog: Self-Care September

Action For Happiness has released their September 2023 calendar and this month's theme is all about self-care.
 
Self-care is not selfish, it's essential for all around wellness. Self-care is about more than a pedicure, beauty regimine, a work out, or any other external "thing." Self-care is looking within (1) and knowing what you need to navigate life optimally (2).
 
Each day in varying capacities, we all help our students achieve wellness, regulation, and their version of homeostasis. Are you "practicing what you preach?" How are you committing to your own self-care in everyday life? Helping yourself regulate? Research on this is vast and abundant, but to keep it short, know that self-care increases happy hormones, resilience and adaptability, and directly diminishes mental health problems.
 
This month Action for Happiness is encouraging everyone to be kinder to themselves. Commit to strengthening the most important relationship you have: your relationship to you!
