APTS Therapy Department

The therapy department at APTS offers a full range of therapeutic services to meet the needs of APTS students. Our team of counselors and therapists maintain a critical role in providing access to early and ongoing interventions for students. While other schools might match a student to supports based on a “best fit curriculum” our counselors have education and training in multiple best practice evidenced based theories. This niche training allows them to program for a wide scope of student’s exceptional and unique needs.

Our highly individualized, intensive and dynamic approach aims to remove social-emotional barriers which impede our students ability to learn. Intervention is also designed to skill build across all circumstances. Our counselors believe that it’s critical social-emotional learning happen regularly and not only under times of duress. Delivery models include individual counseling (proactive and reactive), group counseling, psychosocial classroom guidance lessons, peer mediation, and crisis counseling defined by the American School Counselor Association. Services are implemented as delineated in the student’s IEP which may be delivered as direct, indirect, or a comprehensive combination of both.

Meet the Team

The counselors at APTS are comprised of master’s level professionals with expertise/licensure in counseling psychology, counseling education, and special education. Our counselors work in conjunction with many internal stakeholders (nurses, behavior analysts, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists and physical therapists) and external stakeholders (local community agencies/counties, community agencies, families and private providers) to ensure maximum transparency, consistency, and collaboration is occurring on the student’s behalf.
